EmDoT announces the biggest Smart Bin project in Europe!!!
EmDoT’s waste management solution is chosen by the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni to monitor 5.300 bins, in order to achieve operational excellence and elimination of overflowing waste. The agreement proceeded as part of our cooperation with OTE Group.
In 2019, at EmDoT, we started developing integrated, vertical, intelligent IoT waste management systems, foreseeing the upcoming needs of the market. In order to start this interesting journey, we combined our previous experience and expertise, not only in IoT for various industries, but also in other technological systems applied in waste management as used by Municipalities and cleaning services throughout Greece.
Three years later, sustainability is a holistic perspective across operations. Getting “smart” means being effective and considerate. Smart waste management helps municipalities reduce their carbon footprint and adopt more environmentally friendly collection routes, contributing to the reduction of gas emissions in the city, reducing their operations costs and improving the daily life of their employees.
To be a part of this new perspective, we combined not only our passion and curiosity for technology and but also the innovation with a vision to contribute to safer, humane, breathing cities. The result is EmDoT’s ED120 fill level sensors, a pioneering technology, as they are robust and secure, offering at the same time connection through cellular/ LoRaWAN networks and adjustable sensor angle. EmDoT’s ED120 fill level sensors are widely preferred by Municipalities that invest in the digitization of their processes, aiming to environmental and economic sustainability.
In this context, our integrated solution of smart bins has been selected by the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni, after an international competition. The Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni installs 1.000 IoT device ED120, featuring an advanced robust fill level sensor, seamless data transfer to Cloud platform, secure connection through ΝBIoT/ LoRaWAN networks and adjustable sensor angle. It is planned to utilize 5,300 devices, covering every bin in the municipality! In other words, 5.300 sensors will provide reliable data per waste bin, waste stream, neighborhood, day, seasonality, special areas such as open-air markets, etc. to optimize scheduling, according to real time conditions, leading both to the elimination of overflowing waste and the rise of a happier community. The scale of this partnership renders it the biggest in Europe up to now.
EmDoT’s smart bin solution incorporates a holistic native Azure data analysis and scheduling optimization platform. It is a modular, highly-secured, scalable, highly available platform, able to grow customer business and to adapt to customer changing needs. On an operational level, the system informs waste truck drivers via mobile devices for more efficient collection routes, through a native android application.
The cooperation is carried out through OTE Group, in accordance with the company’s sustainable development strategy.
As the Mayor of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni’s Mr. Grigoris Konstandellos notes, “having technology as an ally, and leading companies like COSMOTE and EmDoT S.A. as partners, the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni is developing actions that improve the everyday life of citizens while at the same time highlight and protect the environment. Smart waste management solution serves holistically the goals of the triple bottom line of sustainability: environment, people and economy. Its immediate application was in our priorities.”
